Unto Us…

He is considered one of the greatest men of God in the ancient world, a counselor to kings and a writer whose Holy Spirit-inspired OT book is quoted more often in the NT than any other, except Psalms. When our Lord Jesus preached His very first sermon, He chose for His text a passage from this man’s writings, which have been compared to the book of Romans for theological depth and a sweeping vision of God.

Isaiah was a man of considerable communication skills and political connection. But he is more than an influential preacher. Isaiah is numbered among those rarified, God-enthralled men called prophets, who were enabled to see what God was going to do in the future as though it had already happened. Isaiah’s oracles juxtapose the immediate and the future, with words that have a bearing in the moment, but carry us to the far away and powerful, the miraculous and wonderful that is yet to come. He paints a picture in words of what was, and what was yet to come. What had been and what had to be.

Throughout the Book he wrote, Isaiah foretold of One who would be sent. A Son. A gift. A Savior, which has been sent Unto Us… Join us Sundays at 11 AM throughout December as we consider the Babe of Bethlehem.

The Privilege of Speech

Picture1

Speech is an awesome privilege. With the tongue we can direct, destroy, and delight. The tongue can build up and break down. There is a wonderful power in words. The Bible says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” But how much of our daily conversation revolves around spiritual things?

The average person has twenty-seven conversations per day. A recent study revealed that both men and women utter an average of about sixteen thousand words each day. We can talk about sports, weather, clothes, shoes, movies, and TV shows. We’re even wiling to debate the nuances of politics, the intricacies of health issues, or the complexities of national economic matters. However, when it comes to bringing up the simple gospel, we shy away. We break out in hives, our palms sweat, our tongues are tied, and we find ourselves talking about everything but the gospel. The idea of injecting Jesus into our conversations causes great anxiety and fear for ordinary believers and pastors alike. (Turning Everyday Conversations into Gospel Conversations, Jimmy Scroggins and Steve Wright, p. 21)

But what if there was another way? What if it was possible to take a simple everyday conversation and transition it into a Gospel conversation? What if it was possible to transition our normal talk into life-changing talk?

On October 28, at 11 AM, Pastors David Johnson and Douglas Turner will be co-teaching a message on how to leverage your language to help reach the lost. They will examine:

  1. The Privilege of Speaking to the Lord
  2. The Privilege of Speaking to the Lord about the Lost
  3. The Privilege of Speaking to the Lost about the Lord

There will be a time in the Word of God, practical illustrations, and a special guest presentation. It’s a time you don’t want to miss. Please join us for this teaching and for tools to help you tell the Good News about Jesus Christ.

Time to Thrive…

Thrive-SPF-BannerAfter years of wear and tear, the flooring in the Worship Center is seriously in need of replacement. After collecting multiple quotes, and speaking to many vendors, the Deacons and Pastor are recommending replacing the carpet in the Worship Center with IMG_3935 2a safe, convenient, multi-purpose flooring. The Church has approved the project, contingent on sufficient giving from the Congregation.

But we need your help!

On 4/29/2018, we will begin taking collections for a special offering to replace all the flooring in the Worship Center. To complete this project, we will need $45,000 to be raised by the Congregation. The product we have chosen will be safe for UPWARD and youth activities, durable, easy to clean, good for fellowship meetings, and pleasing to the eye!

What can you do?

  • Ask God what He wants you to give.
  • Bring your best offering, over and above your regular giving on 4/29.
  • Make a pledge for on-going support.

We will not begin the work UNTIL we have received $45,000 in pledges AND have collected $25,000 in cash. Let’s do all that we can to kick this project off right on 4/29!

Together, Transforming the Future through Sacrificial Giving.

Please bring a dish to share. All are welcome to attend.

Red-Letter Day

Red_Letter_Day_Featured

A “red-letter day” is a day that you will always remember because something good happened to you on that day. A red-letter day is any day of special significance or opportunity. Its roots are in classical antiquity; for instance, important days are indicated in red in a calendar dating from the Roman Republic.  Many calendars still indicate special dates in red instead of black.

But of all the Red Letters, the most important are the words of Jesus Christ, preserved for us in the Bible. These words, written in red in so many of our Bibles, and uttered by Christ from the Cross, remind us of something good that happened in the face of something that seemed so tragic.  Join us each week for “Red-Letter Day.”

March 18, 11 AM: “Father, forgive them…”

March 25, 11 AM: “I thirst…”

March 30, 7 PM: “It is finished…”

April 1, 11 AM: “Today you will be with me in Paradise…”
